The Big Crown Pointer Date is back in bronze in a new edition by Oris

by Editor

In continuous production since 1938, the Big Crown Pointer Date is Oris’s longest-serving design and an icon in Swiss watchmaking. With its oversized crown, red crescent-tipped pointer date hand and fluted bezel, it is an Oris signature and a byword for ageless watch design. Now, for the first time, Oris is releasing it in full bronze, with a solid bronze case, bezel, crown and articulated bracelet and clasp, and with four dial color options – green, brown, bordeaux and blue.

The Big Crown Pointer Date is back in bronze in a new edition by OrisDeveloping a bracelet with this level of detail in bronze, a more malleable material than steel, required significant research and development by Oris’s in-house team of engineers. Bronze captures something of the independent company’s industrial roots, which reach back to 1904, and patinates over time, making it an elegant symbol of Oris’s natural surroundings in the beautiful Swiss village of Hölstein, which change with every season. Inside the watch is Oris’s Calibre 754, an automatic that’s visible through a transparent case back.

The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Bronze is housed in a multi-piece bronze case measuring 40,00 mm, with a top glass sapphire, domed on both sides, with anti-reflective coating inside. The case back is made of stainless steel, screwed down with a see-through mineral glass.

The watch is water resistant to 5 bar and is fitted with a Oris 754 movement with hours, minutes and seconds, and a date centre hand, instantaneous date, date corrector, fine timing device and stop-second. The watch has a power reserve of 38 hours. There are two options for straps – a multi-piece bronze metal bracelet with folding clasp, or a brown leather strap.
